Lincoln the Unknown

This book is depressing. Assuming Dale Carnegie (yes, the same guy who wrote the incredible How to Win Friends and Influence People) is accurate, Abraham Lincoln is the most pathetic historical figure I've ever studied. He married a monster he was so afraid of he skipped his wedding before being browbeat into marrying her. His family was destitute and yet refused payment for legal services he provided. Then, as President, he went from failure to failure leading to the dragging on of the Civil War.
