Disruptive innovations often come from outsiders and new entrants, not incumbent leaders. Focus on customers’ evolving jobs-to-be-done, not existing product categories. Be ready to cannibalize your own products.

Disruption is a word in technology that has been so abused that the true meaning may be lost on many. Fortunately, we have this incredible book to explain how disruption starts and eventually crushes incumbents in any market. It's incredible to follow the author's accounts of many disruptions over the past 100 years and think about current disruptions. Despite publishing in 1997, he predicts does a solid prediction of both what became Tesla and Google Docs.

A decade later I took a lot of inspiration from The Innovator’s Dilemma for a similar reason – we were about to embark on this crazy Intercom thing and I needed to believe it was possible.
